The "King of Glory, King of Peace" hymn originated as a poem by George Herbert (1593-1633), titled "Praise (II)," published in his collection The Temple in 1633. It was later adapted into a hymn and is inspired by the Psalms, particularly Psalm 116. The poem's history includes being first used as a hymn by Robert Bridges and later set to music, most notably by J.D. Jones with the tune Gwalchmai in 1868. The poem was written by George Herbert and included in his posthumously published collection
