Today in 1940, America’s First Superhighway officially opened to customers. Motorists were introduced to a new experience — an unbroken ribbon of pavement cutting through mountains and across valleys, bypassing towns. No stop signs, no intersections, no speed limits. 80 years ago, the #PATurnpike paved the way for our nation’s transportation system – more than 16 years before the first U.S. interstate highway.
