In the late 50s and early 60s, Country music(or Country and Western as the old schoolers called it back in the day)was having a hard time competing for young listeners and charting hits. First, Rock & Roll-think Elvis, Buddy Holly-and it was followed by the British Explosion of The Beatles, Rolling Stones and many others. Country would have to adapt or die. And adapt, it did.
