Yesterday, some sportsmen came across a bull elk stuck in a bog hole in Garfield County. They called us. (This falls under that “other duties as assigned” category in our employee work plans.) We recently partnered with Garfield County to install a Utah prairie dog translocation site on Bureau of Land Management land in the West Desert. Utah prairie dogs are a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act so translocation plays a vital role in both recovery of the species and conflict management with humans or domestic animals.
