International Paper’s closure of its Savannah paper mill will cost 1,100 jobs and likely will have an impact on SC's $23B forestry and timber industry.

Savannah Mayor Van Johnson held an impromptu media briefing Thursday afternoon to discuss potential impacts and response to International Paper closures.

"There is no other job in Savannah that gives the opportunities international paper gave to employees…All of that opportunity just went up in flames."
