Fairfield National defeated South Dakota 13-1 to get within one game of playing for the U.S. championship in Williamsport.
The team from Chester County, Pa., lost Saturday in an elimination game to Clarendon Hills Little League of Illinois, 3-2. After a scoreless first two innings, Clarendon Hills got three runners across the plate in the third. The deficit would prove too much for Glenmoore Eagle to overcome, although they did not allow more runs.
Day 5 began with a United States bracket game between Washington (Northwest region) and Massachusetts (New England). Bonney Lake, Washington edged Braintree, Massachusetts 3-2 to keep their championship hopes alive. Elsewhere, Canada scored a blowout win in the International bracket, routing Australia 12-0 in five innings.
Clarendon Hills bounced back from a lopsided loss in the first round of the Little League World Series to beat the Mid-Atlantic Region champion from Upper Uwchlan Township, Pennsylvania on Saturday 3-2.
