WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Four firefighters were injured after a building exploded Tuesday in Wilmington, North Carolina. The explosion was captured on video by someone nearby. Wilmington Police said the blast was likely caused by a traffic crash that ruptured a gas line.
More Wilmington-area beach towns are advising beachgoers to stay out of the water as Hurricane Erin draws closer to the Cape Fear region, bringing life-threatening surf and rip currents to area beaches.
Terminations and reviews linked to the Trump administration's DOGE have hit the Wilmington area this year, including Cape Fear Memorial Bridge funds.
Conditions along the North Carolina coast are expected to deteriorate as Hurricane Erin begins to pass by on Wednesday, Aug. 20.
