After Hurricane Ian, Publix discontinued selling, producing or baking hurricane-themed cakes. Hurricane cakes have been around (or sold at Publix) since at least 2016.

Meteorologist Bill Walsh shared an image of a Publix bakery display early this morning, writing, "Meanwhile down at the @Publix in Florida… hurricane cakes! 'A' for creative baking!!!

Well, yes and no. While the image is real, cakes like these have appeared as early as 2019 when Hurricane Dorian hit Florida from the east, and Publix did in fact make and sell cakes like this.
