Parts of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) are under an air quality warning on Monday alongside an ongoing heat warning in the region, Environment Canada says.

Wildfire season is upon us, and smoke is reducing air quality through swaths of the country. Environment Canada suggests people check the Air Quality Health Index daily to determine how much time to spend outside.

An Air Quality Alert will be in effect through midnight Tuesday for Southeast Michigan, the state's Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy announced Monday. The alert is an extension of an existing alert that was issued statewide Saturday and expected to expire Monday night because of drifting wildfire smoke from Canada.

The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an air quality alert for Tuesday. The alert has been issued for north and central Vermont from midnight Tuesday until midnight Wednesday. The department says wildfire smoke from Canada will increase fine particle concentrations.

Minnesotans across the state are impacted by poor air quality from wildfires in Canada. FOX 9's Leon Purvis has more.

Many people felt the impact of the air quality on Saturday. It's stemming from the wildfire smoke in Canada, officials say it will linger through Sunday.

Unhealthy air quality is forecast, with periods of Very Unhealthy air quality possible for several hours. Folks should expect to see and smell smoke, and Air Quality Alerts are in effect. Conditions will improve slightly tonight through Sunday.
