President Donald Trump’s efforts to force Republicans to pass a partisan overhaul of voting laws risks bringing congressional business to a halt with no clear path to success, Senate Majority Leader John Thune warned Monday.

Trump has been pushing to end the use of mail-in ballots for some time. During his State of the Union address last month, while he was pushing for Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, he added, “no more crooked mail-in ballots except for illness, disability, military or travel — none.”
Critics say the SAVE Act’s voter ID and citizenship requirements could create barriers for transgender voters.
