The U.S. Education Department is scrapping last-minute guidance issued by the Biden administration that threatened to upend colleges’ plans to pay athletes for their name, image and likeness by making those payments subject to federal Title IX rules.

The U.S. Department of Education said on Wednesday it rescinded guidance issued by the administration of President Joe Biden that payments to college athletes through name, image and likeness deals should be shared equally between male and female competitors.
