Khalil, permanent U.S. resident who helped lead pro-Palestinian protests, was finished with postgraduate studies when he was arrested on campus and slated for deportation.

Immigration authorities detained another Columbia University student, Mohsen Mahdawi. His lawyer, Luna Droubi, said Mahdawi was taken into custody in Vermont during his naturalization interview.
