Russia's Vladimir Putin spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday, days after he met US President Donald Trump in Alaska to discuss a permanent end to the war on Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, hours before a scheduled meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.

India has consistently called for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and supports all efforts in this regard.

Highlighting the strength of the India-Russia friendship amid New Delhi’s ongoing tensions with Washington, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday evening for the second time in 10 days and briefed him on the Alaska summit that he had held on Saturday with US President Donald Trump.

Trump's bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will take place at 1.15 pm (local time) (1715 GMT) (10.45 pm IST)on Monday at the White House, the White House said in a press guidance statement on Sunday.

Russia's Vladimir Putin wished Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of India's 79th Independence Day. Putin also said that Russia is looking to continue expanding its bilateral cooperation with India in multiple areas.

In his message to Zelensky, PM Modi also expressed an earnest wish for the people of Ukraine and Kyiv’s war with Russia.
