Ahead of Monday's sentencing, U.S. District Court Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings denied Hankison's motion for a new trial, saying she is "frustrated by the nebulous and disjointed nature of the motion and corresponding briefs."

Advocates have released comments in response to the Trump Justice Department recommending to a federal judge that there was “no need for a prison sentence” for former LMPD officer Brett Hankison.

The statement follows the U.S. Department of Justice's recommendation that Brett Hankison receive a one-day sentence.
