Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry was in Washington, D.C., Wednesday to ask for help to lower commercial tolls planned for the new Interstate 10-Calcasieu River Bridge in Lake Charles. Gov. Jeff Landry declared a state of emergency Saturday in preparation for the winter weather expected to hit Louisiana early next week, when snow is expected to accumulate in some areas. The National Weather Service has issued extreme cold warnings for the state in effect from Monday through Thursday.

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana state troopers began Monday notifying residents of a state-sanctioned unhoused encampment under the Pontchartrain Expressway that they will soon have to relocate, per an order from Gov.

Pursuant to Governor Landry’s Jan. 1, 2025, executive order, the State of Louisiana will work to secure state-maintained interstates, bridges, and transportation lines in addition to ensuring that public streets, sidewalks, and other right of ways in Orleans Parish are in clean, accessible and safe condition.

Projects like port improvements or a new Mississippi River Bridge in Baton Rouge are tied up for years by bureaucracy, the governor said.

One person was killed in a traffic crash on Interstate 10 near Elysian Fields Avenue early Sunday morning, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
