National security adviser Mike Waltz is expected to depart from the Trump administration in the coming days, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN, the first major staff shakeup since the president took office in January.

Mike Waltz, as well as deputy national security advisor Alex Wong are leaving the White House, a source familiar with the situation confirmed May 1.

Waltz lost favor with the president after he added a journalist to a Signal chat where a sensitive military operation was being discussed.
