Former U.S. Congressman Merrill Cook dies at 79 after a lifelong pursuit in political campaigns. Merrill is survived by his five children, his wife, his brother and his sister.

Merrill Cook, a firebrand politician who often clashed with fellow Utah Republicans, died March 9 at age 79. Cook lost several elections but won two terms in the U.S. House, serving from 1997 to 2001.
