West Virginia led the charge against New York’s Climate Change Superfund Act, suing to block the law that requires polluters to pay for environmental damage based on how many tons of fossil fuels they emitted during a specific period of time.

And yet, knowing what I know about the climate, the promise of a return to supersonic flight is a little tarnished. We’re in a spot with climate change where we need to drastically cut emissions, and supersonic flight would likely take us in the wrong direction. The whole thing has me wondering how fast is fast enough.

New York was sued on Thursday by 22 other U.S. states over a new law requiring fossil fuel companies to contribute $75 billion over 25 years into a fund that will pay for damage caused by climate change.
