The Astros were shut out for the second consecutive game and third time in four nights as their offensive struggles continued in Detroit.

Jack Flaherty struck out nine batters in seven scoreless innings and the Detroit Tigers went on to beat the Houston Astros 10-0 on Monday night.

Taylor Scott replaced Spencer Arrighetti in the bottom of the 6th, but a triple by Trey Sweeney and sac fly by Colt Keith then made it 6-0 anyway. Spencer’s night ended with a stat line of: 7 Hits, 4 walks, 5 K’s, 2 HR’s, and 5 ER’s. (Also now has a 6.94 ERA)

The Tigers are roaring again. On Monday, they rolled over their closest competitor in the race for a postseason first-round bye, using home runs from Wenceel Pérez, Riley Greene, Trey Sweeney and Colt

The best two records among division champs in each league get a first-round bye, while the third has to play in a best-of-three wild-card series.

As the Tigers open the three-game series with the Astros on Monday, fans may already have their eyes on the All-Star pitching matchup in Game 2.
