Rhode Island’s chief federal judge is coming under increasing criticism from President Trump’s allies and supporters, including tech billionaire Elon Musk, for rulings that so far have blocked the administration’s federal funding freeze.

Dozens of lawsuits have been filed in response to Trump’s provocative executive orders. In a case to enjoin Trump’s freezing of federal funding, the trial judge determined that Trump violated his order but has not attempted to sanction Trump or any members of his administration.

"Partisan judges abusing their positions is a threat to democracy," Representative Eli Crane said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
