The Manhattan district attorney charged Nytavia Ragsdale and Laron Modlin with murder, manslaughter and four counts of assault and endangering the welfare of a child following the death of the couple's 4-year-old son.

One bedroom was so filthy, the floor could not be seen through the amount of caked dirt and excrement on it, officials said. It was the only room with a lock — on the outside of the door.

Authorities said the parents cut off access to food in their home for their four kids for 2 years while purchasing food for themselves on a daily basis.
