MADRID, SPAIN — Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Madrid Open after sustaining an injury to his right adductor muscle, as well as an injury in his left hamstring. Alcaraz confirmed his withdrawal during a news conference in Madrid, in which he said that he hoped to be fit for the Italian Open in Rome, which begins May 7.

Alcaraz, who has dropped back down to third in the ATP rankings following his defeat in Barcelona and Alexander Zverev's victory in Munich, has a 24-5 record for the season, having won two titles. He is a two-time champion in Madrid, having triumphed in the Spanish capital in 2022 and 2023.

With the French Open 2025 nearing its start, there are rising concerns that Carlos Alcaraz may be forced to relinquish his title without fighting for it.
