Jack Flaherty struck out nine batters in seven scoreless innings and the Detroit Tigers went on to beat the Houston Astros 10-0 on Monday night.

Sánchez, the outfielder acquired by the Houston Astros from the Marlins at the trade deadline, went hitless in his first homestand with the club last week. While robbing two home runs in right field in Sunday’s series finale against Baltimore, Sánchez also extended his hitless streak to 21 at-bats.

Currently, Detroit is first in the AL Central, 8.5 games up on the Cleveland Guardians. The Astros are first in the AL West, one game in front of the Seattle Mariners. The ‘Stros won two of three against the Tigers in Houston back in April.

Taylor Scott replaced Spencer Arrighetti in the bottom of the 6th, but a triple by Trey Sweeney and sac fly by Colt Keith then made it 6-0 anyway. Spencer’s night ended with a stat line of: 7 Hits, 4 walks, 5 K’s, 2 HR’s, and 5 ER’s. (Also now has a 6.94 ERA)

D ETROIT - Houston Astros left-hander Brandon Walter was shut down after a setback in his attempt to return from an elbow injury, the team announced. Walter was placed on the injured list July 25 due to elbow inflammation. He had resumed throwing but had a recurrence of inflammation, the team said Monday.
