The board of Spirit Airlines rejected a $3.6 billion takeover bid by rival JetBlue Airways, saying it would continue to pursue a merger with Frontier Airlines.

To assuage antitrust concerns, JetBlue pledged to sell several airport gates and flying slots owned by Spirit to low-cost carriers Frontier Group Holdings Inc. and Allegiant Airlines.
